Steve Redgrave

Great Britain's Most Admired Olympian

Sir Steve Redgrave CBE is an English rower who captured five gold medals at five consecutive Olympic Games from 1984 to 2000. Known as one of Britains greatest sporting personalities, Redgrave has also won nine gold medals, two silvers and a bronze at the Rowing World Championships over a span of nine years. His record of 14 total Olympic and World Championship gold medals is unsurpassed by any other rower in history.

Throughout his career, Redgrave was plagued with several serious injuries and illnesses. In 1992 he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and in late 1997, diabetes. Under careful supervision, he was able to train through such obstacles and today is heavily involved in charity work through the Steve Redgrave Fund.

Redgrave was awarded the MBE in the New Year's Honors List in 1987 and the CBE in the New Year's Honors List of 1997. Following his success in Sydney, he was awarded a Knighthood in the 2001 New Years Honors List. The University of Durham awarded him an Honorary Degree in December of 1996 and in 2000 he was named BBCs Sports Personality of the Year.

Since retirement in 2000, Redgrave has been involved in numerous commercial and charitable projects. In addition to maintaining a busy schedule as an after-dinner and motivational speaker, he is currently working with high profile brands such as Jaguar and the BBC and is also actively involved with companies such as Ultralase, Brand Rapport and Gleeds.

In his first book, You Can Win at Life, Redgrave outlines his strategies for reaching the top and demonstrates how such theories can be utilized in everyday life situations. His previous books include A Golden Age and The Complete Book of Rowing. Redgrave released his fourth book, Inspired, in 2009, which includes a number of personal stories from the sporting world that have influenced his career and life.
