Carrie Budoff Brown

Managing Editor of POLITICO

Carrie Budoff Brown is the editor of POLITICO.

Previously, she was the managing editor of POLITICO Europe. As a founding member of the POLITICO Europe team, Budoff Brown built a newsroom that now numbers more than 60 journalists in Brussels, London, Paris and Berlin. Due in large part to her efforts, POLITICO Europe was named the most well-read and influential EU media publication, according to the ComRes/Burson-Marsteller 2017 media survey of EU influencers. During her tenure in Brussels, she served as a bridge between newsrooms in Washington and Europe, directing POLITICO's coverage of the debt crisis in Greece, Europe’s migration challenges, Brexit and terrorist attacks in Paris and Brussels.

Budoff Brown began her career in journalism at the York (Pennsylvania) Daily Record in the summer before her freshman year in college. She worked as an editor at The Daily Targum, the student-run newspaper of Rutgers University, and interned at the Richmond Times Dispatch and The New York Times. She worked as a staff writer at the Hartford Courant and the Philadelphia Inquirer before arriving at POLITICO in 2007. Between 2009 and 2014, Budoff Brown served as POLITICO’s White House correspondent. She has covered the Senate, Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, the 2010 passage of the Affordable Care Act, and many other legislative efforts on Capitol Hill.

Budoff Brown was a recipient of the 2012 Merriman Smith Award for Excellence in Presidential Coverage under pressure in the print category.
