Rafael Hostettler

Project Lead For Roboy; Engineer & Robotics Expert

Rafael Hostettler is the legal guardian and project lead for “Roboy” and the president of the Devanthro Society, a non-profit society dedicated to the development of anthropomimetic robots. With an unsatisfiable curiosity, Hostettler works towards a simple goal: to stay curious indefinitely. With an MSc. in Computational Science and Engineering from ETH Zurich, Switzerland, he now builds towards bio-inspired humanoid robots as good as the human body. He’s building robots that imitate the building principles of the human musculoskeletal system so that at some point they can become our bodies. He also travels the world with Roboy, the 3D printed robot boy that plays in a theatre, goes to school and captivates the audience with his fascinating stories. Roboy was built in just nine months in the University of Zurich’s Artificial Intelligence Laboratory as a messenger of a new generation of soft and interactive robots.
