Lieutenant Commander Errol Laumann is the U.S. Navy fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). A career intelligence officer, his most recent assignment was at U.S. Naval Central Command in Bahrain, where he served as an operational planner for contingency operations in the U.S. Central Command area of operations. Prior to assignment to U.S. Naval Central Command, he served as an intelligence officer for Naval Special Warfare Development Group and Naval Special Warfare Tactical Development and Evaluation Squadron FOUR. During these assignments he completed multiple deployments, serving in Joint Special Operations Task Forces/Units in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. His operational tours have afforded him experience in military support to disaster relief and humanitarian assistance missions, extensive joint special operations experience, intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions, and military planning for contingency operations throughout the Middle East, Western Pacific, and South America.

Lieutenant Commander Laumann is a 1998 graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology. He holds a M.A. in national security strategy from the U.S. Navy War College, College of Naval Command and Staff. He is also a graduate of the Maritime Advanced Warfare School, the Navy’s school designed to educate strategic and operational leaders with the skills required to plan and execute joint operations. He has received numerous personal, unit, and campaign awards.
