Doug Lansky is one of America’s foremost experts on budget travel. After nearly twenty years on the road, over 120 countries, five filled passports, four foreign languages and hundreds of the world’s great adventures under his belt, Lansky has a bounty of travel insights.
Lansky, originally from Minnesota, has written a weekly Chicago Tribune-syndicated column for five years that has reached 10 million readers in over 40 newspapers, penned several books, including "Last Trout in Venice", "Up the Amazon without a Paddle," and "Rough Guide to Traveling Around the World." Lansky also served as travel editor for Scandinavian Airlines inflight magazine for three years and has contributed to publications such as National Geographic, Traveler, Readers Digest, Esquire, Men's Journal, The Guardian, National Geographic Adventure, Huffington Post and Skift.
Lansky has edited an award-winning travel-humor anthology, contributed monthly to Public Radio’s flagship travel program, Savvy Traveler and hosted an hour-long travel documentary for the Travel Channel/Discovery Channel and taught journalism at Colorado College. His travels have left him living in Colorado, New York, France, Spain, Holland, Norway, and Sweden—where he currently makes his base camp in Stockholm with his Swedish wife Signe, and their daughter Sienna.
On the speaking circuit, Lansky has given acclaimed lectures at nearly 100 universities, spoken to a sold-out audience at National Geographic Headquarters, for the United Nations World’s Tourism Organization, as an after-dinner speaker at corporate events and at both public and industry travel/tourism conferences, at TEDx Stockholm, and set the attendance record for keynote lectures at the 2012 and 2013 ITB Berlin conferences.

The Art of Miscommunication
There are many people who can tell you how to brand and market your product. Keynote speaker Doug Lansky will show you how not to do it. Based on his best-selling Signspotting book series of hilarious signs and failed marketing photos from around the world, Lansky is able to convert these universally funny images into a powerful takeaway message that illustrates not just the importance of brand protection, but how to do it effectively.
Lost in Translation
Travel writer and keynote speaker Doug Lansky takes an entertaining and insightful look at what happens when national and international tourism marketing goes wrong and how to prevent it. In addition to the failed marketing images, he shares some of the world's worst tourism slogans, worst hotel names, and shows what happens when there's a disconnect between the brochure and the actual experience.
Get Lost:
Get Lost is a fast-paced visual performance on travel - like stand-up comedy, but with a great message. Informative, inspirational and funny. Lansky's lectures at colleges and universities across th US play to packed venues. Through words and images, each World Travel Show presentation brings the audience on an hour-long global odyssey, full of information, lessons and experiences acquired while backpacking across more than 100 countries. What he teaches is useful not just in traveling on semesters abroad or as an impendent traveler, but also in enriching everyday life -- no mater where you go or what you do.
