Weijian Shan    

Chairman & CEO of PAG, One of Asia's Leading Investment Firms

Weijian Shan is an economist, businessman and author based in Hong Kong. He is the Chairman and CEO of PAG, which is one of Asia's leading investment firms. He is also an author, having published his memoir, "Out of the Gobi: My Story of China and America," in January of 2019. The title of the memoir stems from Shan having spent six years as a farm laborer in the Gobi desert as the result of Mao Zedong's Cultural Revolution.

Before beginning his current position at PAG, Shan was a Senior Partner at TPG Capital. Prior to TPG Capital, Shan worked at JP Morgan between 1993 and 1998 as a Managing Director, concurrently serving as its China Representative, Chief Representative for JP Morgan Beijing Office and Chief Representative for JP Morgan Shanghai Office.

He was a professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania for six years. Shan also worked as an investment officer at the World Bank for a time.

Shan received a Ph.D. and a Masters of Arts in economics from the University of California at Berkeley. Shan holds an MBA from the University of San Francisco. Shan studied English at Beijing Institute of Foreign Trade, now known as Beijing University of International Business and Economics.
