Dr. Valentina Carbone  

Supply Chain Management and Operations Management

Valentina Carbone is an Affiliate Professor in the Information Systems and Technologies department at ESCP-EAP. Her teaching areas are Supply Chain Management and Operations Management. She is Italian with an educational profile in business and economics. She worked for Procter & Gamble and Finseda (a European leader Group in food packaging) for three years before starting an academic career.

After earning her Doctorate from the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (Paris) in 2004 (logistics integration strategies in Europe), she was a research fellow at INRETS (National Research Institute of Transport), where she held scientific responsibility for a 3 year research project into the impact of sustainable development on supply chain management (DURLOG Project).

Since September 2006 she has also been a Professor in Supply Chain Management and Operations Management at ESCE.

Dr. Carbone’s main research interests concern the organisation and coordination of production systems in terms of transport and logistics needs. More precisely, transport and logistics organisations are analysed as coordination tools between the different actors of the supply chain.

Her current research covers different subjects: logistics alliances; growth and development strategies of logistics service providers; the impact of sustainable development on transport and logistics organisations and its effects on supply chain organisation and performance.

She is the author of articles, book chapters and communications at international research conferences (Association Internationale de Management Stratégique, World Conference on Transport Research, International Symposium on Logistics…). She is in involved in the "Supply Chain Monitoring Unit" in cooperation with BearingPoint and Supply Chain Magazine. A current research project in the context of this alliance deals with the impact of environmental issues on the management of the supply chain.

The impact of sustainable development on Supply Chain Management

In the context of the DURLOG project, financed by the French Ministry for Transport, Valentina Carbone, together with C. Meunier (INRETS), is attempting to characterize supply chains in economical, social and environmental terms. More precisely, they are analyzing strategies and practices of companies taking into account three factors of sustainability; she is also analyzing sustainable logistics practices and finally she is attempting to establish a link between the production system characteristics and logistics and transport organisations. Several articles, research reports and other contributions are being developed within the framework the DURLOG project.

The "eco supply chain"

Valentina Carbone, together with Valérie Moatti is analyzing the environmental issues in the management of supply chain for Supply Chain Magazine and Bearing Point. The aim of this multi-country survey is to identify the different environmental issues that can impact on eco-supply chain. Several research articles will be developed using the results of the survey.

The relationship between trust and control in logistical alliances

Valentina Carbone, together with Valérie Moatti, is analyzing the relationship between different types of trust and control in the case of supply chain alliances.
