James Brolin

American Actor, Producer and Director

James Brolin won a supporting actor Emmy as young Dr. Steven Kiley opposite Robert Young's veteran doctor on “Marcus Welby, M.D.” in 1970. But since 1998 he’s been known for a different role: as the husband of legendary singer, actress, director, producer and composer Barbra Streisand. In 2009, he told The Times that he asked Streisand, his third wife, for advice when deciding on a project: “I always look at things and say, 'Will Barbra be proud?' “ Brolin never had to struggle to get his big break as an actor; at 18, he was stopped on the street by someone and asked if he would like to do a commercial. “I said, 'Would I have to talk?' And they said no, we just want you to drive a Dodge truck. So I did the commercial and got $400. I didn't have to get into the Screen Actors Guild yet.” Small roles in movies eventually followed, and then “Marcus Welby, M.D.” Brolin’s other TV work included “The West Wing,” “Hotel” and various sitcoms and soap operas. On the big screen, he starred in films such as “Westworld” (1973), and played President George W. Bush in the Oliver Stone film “W.” His son, Josh Brolin, starred in “No Country for Old Men” and received an Oscar nomination for supporting actor for “Milk.”
