Carrie Brownstein is global seafood quality standards coordinator for Whole Foods Market, focused on creating a model for the seafood industry that supports healthier oceans and communities. Her day-to-day work involves developing sustainable sourcing policies and programs to implement them for seafood sold at Whole Foods. She works with fishermen, environmental groups, scientists, and buyers to create a seafood market that supports responsible aquaculture production and reverses trends in overfishing and bycatch. Brownstein, whose family has been in the seafood business since 1909, has worked on seafood sustainability for 15 years. She focused on marine ecology and fisheries management while obtaining her master’s degree in environmental management from Duke University.
